DUCKS are splashing around happily at Big Mead pond - thanks to a community effort to transform the historic feature.
More than 70 ducks have flocked to the pond since the pump was repaired, the pond drained and cleaned, the whole site re-vamped, and the pond re-filled.

Duck houses adorned with Isle of Wight flags take pride of place on a delightful island in the middle of the water, which helps keep the ducks safe from predators.

The community had rallied round to save 152 fish from the pond, which was losing water and starved of oxygen during a heatwave.

A huge volunteer effort took place to carry out the much-needed works to the pond.

Much of the work was led by Cllr Adrian Whittaker, along with volunteers including Brian and Sharon Cooper, Grant Scarsella, Lee Jefferies, Cllr Robert May and Cllr Mark Jefferies.
