A CHEQUE for £2284.20 was presented to a worthy cause following a tennis tournament.
Sally, Lady Grylls, president of the Dementia UK Admiral Nurses IW Appeal, was presented the cheque by Chris Goodman, the retiring organiser of the West Wight Tennis Tournament.
The tournament took place on one of the hottest days of the year.
Chris said: "Fifty tennis players showed their passion and their commitment to the sport by competing in the annual West Wight Tennis Tournament.
“Each year this popular tournament is played at various venues around the West Wight with the final and buffet lunch being held at Westover House in Calbourne, courtesy of Caroline Weeks.”
The annual event supports a different charity each year, and this year saw proceeds being raised in aid of Dementia UK Admiral Nurses Isle of Wight.
Lady Grylls said: “Thank you very much to all of you for making so much money. It's such a fantastic charity to support because everyone knows someone with dementia.
"I do hope we can have an Admiral Nurse back at Mountbatten soon, and we are actively searching for a benefactor who could make that happen.”
Next year, the chosen charity is St Catherine’s School, Ventnor.
