THE scooter community has raised thousands of pounds for the family of scooter rider, Mattias Klabis, who tragically died in a crash in Apse Heath last week. 

The 51-year-old, from Hamburg, Germany, died in a fatal collision on Newport Road on August 26.

A woman was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, but has since been released under investigation. 

Police continue to appeal for witnesses in the wake of the crash near the Isle of Wight Scooter Rally base at Sandown Airport.

More than £10,000 has been raised via a Paypal fundraiser to help his wife and two sons.

Further to this, Mattias' close friend, Frank Fountain, has also set up a Facebook fundraiser to help with the costs of repatriating him, which German scooter magazine SLUK has shared. 

So far, £1,266 has been raised, with a target of £4,000.
