ST HELENS Carnival returned after a two-year hiatus yesterday evening (Monday).

Part of a wider event ­— the St Helens Sports and Carnival ­— festivities kicked off early with a car boot sale.

Other features throughout the day included village stalls and sports events.

It all culminated in the evening with a carnival assembly and procession, followed by musical entertainment.

As always, it was a team effort, and when Ventnor Carnival Association's float broke on arrival, Ryde stepped in and invited Ventnor to join them.
