THE Isle of Wight’s penultimate main carnival of the summer season will get underway this evening (Bank Holiday Monday).
St Helens Carnival is returning for the first time since 2019 and at well over 100 years old it’s one of the oldest carnivals in the country.
Organisers are hoping that as many people as possible will enter the parade to celebrate the carnival’s return.
Festivities get underway from 9am with a car boot sale, at 11am village fayre stalls will open, and sports events will start at 1.30pm.
Assembly and judging will take place on the West Green from 5.30pm, with prizes available each category.
The parade will move from at 6.30pm along Upper Green Road, featuring St Helens Carnival queens who won first prize at Newport Carnival in July.
Evening musical entertainment gets underway from 7.15pm.
