THE construction of a new two-storey cafe/restaurant continues to make good progress at Totland Pier.

Progress on Totland Pier’s building work was captured by the Isle of Wight Guru on August 16.

The construction up to shell and core level is expected to be completed this summer.

Set over two levels at the end of the pier, the restaurant will be capable of catering for 120 customers inside and 100 outside.

The 140-metre pier had undergone a multi-million-pound renovation, restored where possible and replaced where not.

The pier-head has been largely replaced with steel piles and platforms to take the new building, and the whole structure has been re-boarded in oak, to retain its Victorian heritage while being capable of lasting another 100 years.
