THE main road between Newport and Sandown has been closed tonight (Thursday, August 25), following a serious crash.
Police are currently dealing with the incident on Newport Road in Apse Heath, near Honnor and Jeffery garden centre and Sandown Airport.
The crash has been described as a 'serious RTC' by police.
A spokesperson for Isle of Wight Police said: "Please be aware this road through to Morrisons roundabout (in Lake) will be closed for a number of hours.
"Please find alternative routes."
Southern Vectis route 8 has been diverted.
Route 8 diversion - Due to a RTI near Sandown Airport Police have closed the road. Buses to divert via Canteen Rd & Shanklin direct to Lake Shops. Diversion opertes in both directions. Bus stops from Apse Heath Crossroads to Newport Rd Bottom cannot be served in either direction
