A MAN drove himself to an Isle of Wight holiday park while drunk to get himself away from the house after a row.

The prosecution said Arthur George Boddy, 53, had consumed 15 pints in the pub that evening — which is disputed by the defence who said his alcohol reading didn't reflect that.

Boddy, of Melville Street, Ryde, admitted drink driving to Nodes Point, St Helens, on August 2, when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court on Friday.

Liz Miller, prosecuting, said his reading was 81 when the legal limit is 35.

He had been drinking beer in the pub and carried on drinking when he got home where he "became verbally aggressive and abusive" towards his wife and step-daughter.

They called the police and Boddy drove away.

Barry Arnett, for Boddy, said "there are always two sides to a story" and Boddy had simply made the decision to remove himself from the situation and go to Nodes Point, where was employed.

Mr Arnett said Boddy lost his job as a result of his arrest, and now has no income, but his family had stood by him.

He was disqualified from driving for 20 months, fined £120, and must pay £85 costs and a £48 surcharge.
