FIRE crews from around the Isle of Wight were called to a blaze out of control in a field close to the Garlic Festival site.
Smoke billowing from the field in Bathingbourne Lane, Hale Common, near Newchurch, could be seen for miles around.
Appliances from Newport, Shanklin, Sandown and Ventnor were called to the scene at 4.53pm today (Saturday).
A large area has been afected by the fire, a spokesperson for the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said.

UPDATE 6.11PM
A water carrier is also at the scene assisting with tackling the fire, which has spread to an area covering about five hectares of grassland.
Hose reels and beaters have been used to tackle the fire, with it now surrounded, a fire service spokesperson added.
Police closed Bathingbourne Lane as fire crews continue to damp down the area.
UPDATE 6.45PM
The stop message came in at 6.30pm, with crews now returning to station.
