The County Press has launched its 2022 Cash For Charities initiative — and we're asking you to nominate your favourite Isle of Wight charity.

Last year, young people's charity South Wight Area Youth (SWAY) picked up a sizeable chunk of funding in the County Press's Cash For Charities 2021 initiative.

We asked Jo Richards, chair of SWAY, how the £1,663.04 the charity was awarded last year has been used.

She said that 28 young people and six leaders have just got back from the annual trip to the Lake District.

"Great fun was had by all and some of the money we were awarded went towards this trip, which costs approximately £600 per young person, which SWAY subsidises.

"Our biggest expense is the travel, the minibuses and this year especially, the fuel. Food for the group also cost more.

"But it is such a great opportunity for them — a great time of sharing and getting on, challenges and memories."

Some of the money also went towards SWAY's summer activities programme, which included visits to Tapnell Farm Aqua Park, climbing and skating.

They also did crabbing and a beach barbecue and once again, the cost of some of these activities needed to be subsidised.

The last of the money went towards activities over two days at Corf.

The group went kayaking and bug hunting and families came and joined in a lunchtime feast.

Jo concluded: "The money was tremendous and helped SWAY to give young people great opportunities to experience things they have never done before and make fabulous memories."
