Isle of Wight should be fairly funded says Rishi Sunak

He spoke about the unique factors affecting the Isle of Wight during his interview with Nick Robinson.

Presenter Robinson interviewed the Conservative leadership candidate Sunak, to ask him where he stands on the issues that matter to the country. 

It came just days after Mr Sunak's visit to the Isle of Wight, where people asked him about the 'Island Deal' - a package of cash previously indicated by Boris Johnson the Island might be receiving.

In a recent interview with the County Press and Isle of Wight Radio, Mr Sunak seemed to rule out the 'Island Deal' but instead said the Isle of Wight should benefit from fairer funding formulas.  

He reiterated that today.

He said "there are lots of places that need investment and need opportunity to be spread" and cited the Isle of Wight as an example.

He said he had recently visited and "do you know what they have been asking for on the Isle of Wight for a long time? Recognition that actually providing public services, in an Island economy, is different, and they want that to be recognised. 

So far, the Isle of Wight has not heard about Liz Truss's thoughts on an Island deal.
