The supermarket giant plans to move into the former Laura Ashley shop, on the corner of St Thomas's Square.
In recent weeks, proposals have been submitted by Tesco to join together 35 and 36 Newport High Street to provide its sixth Island branch.
Detailed plans have been submitted to the Isle of Wight Council requesting signs - some of which will be lit up - as well as fascia panels, vinyl advertising posters and window frosting.

- Comments can be submitted until August 26.
A licensing application has also been submitted by Tesco, which seeks permission to supply alcohol all hours the store will be open — between 6am and midnight.

No official date has been confirmed for when the branch could open and work has not yet started in the High Street shop.
The shop has been empty since homeware and clothing store Laura Ashley moved out, in 2020, when the national retailers saw administrators appointed due to pressures created by the Covid pandemic.
Tesco already has stores in Wootton, Lake, Ventnor, Ryde and Freshwater.
