Brading High Street is closed for emergency water main repairs, prompting a much longer diversion through Bembridge.
The major route, between Ryde and Sandown, shut suddenly yesterday evening (Monday), at 6.30pm. It could stay closed for up to five days.
The stretch between its junctions with Quay Lane and West Street is affected, which will mean a long rural diversion for Islanders and holidaymakers in the area, at the height of summer.
A diversion is in place, via Marshcombe Shute, Bembridge Road, Sandown Road, Hillway Road, Steyne Road, Foreland Road, High Street, Church Road, Kings Road, Embankment Road, Station Road, Upper Green Road and Carpenters Road.
