SANDOWN Carnival gets underway today (Saturday, July 30), with family fun all day at Sandown Gardens.
The festivities get underway from 10am at Sandham Gardens, with family-friendly entertainment until 4pm, including Derek Sandy and Company B.
The Children’s Parade leaves Sandown Pier at midday and will travel along the Esplanade and Culver Parade to Sandham Gardens.
Sandown Carnival organisers announced on Thursday (July 28) that samba-reggae drummers from Batala Portsmouth will join Shademakers UK in its main carnival procession.
Other stars of the Jubilee Pageant, The Ventnor Comic Jazz Band, will also be taking part, with additional musical entertainment from the Vectis Corps of Drums and the Medina Marching Band.
The main procession gets underway at 7pm from the library on the High Street (see the route below).
The best viewpoints for the carnival include Beachfield Road, Royal Crescent, Melville Street, Fitzroy Street, Station Avenue and Albert Road.
Free copies of the carnival programme are available at the Carnival Shop on the High Street.
