A LIFEGUARD saved an 11-year-old boy from drowning in the sea at Sandown today (Thursday, July 21).
The boy slipped and fell from a concrete groyne and immediately started to drown.
A lifeguard, who spotted the boy fall, was sent with a rescue board and saved the child.
He was treated at the lifeguard hut and advised of secondary drowning as he had swallowed water.
Ryde Beach Lifeguards said: "Please avoid walking or jumping off of the groynes, especially if you are not a strong swimmer and ensure you swim between the red and yellow flags!"
This incident was outside of the red and yellow flags, and Ryde Beach Lifeguards said the boy is lucky the team were so vigilant and noticed.
