AN UNUSUAL addition to an Isle of Wight menu has found itself the subject of much discussion - and even an appearance on the Radio 2 Jeremy Vine show.
It came down to this question: Would you pay more to have something removed from your burger in a restaurant?
It all started when The upmarket George Hotel in Yarmouth printed on its menu that it would cost £2 to add or REMOVE any ingredient from its £21.50 George Burger.
Consumer journalist and feature writer Harry Wallop asked his Twitter followers to discuss the merits of asking £2 to *remove* an ingredient from a burger, after his colleague noticed the unusual addition on the menu.

The story was then picked up by the Jeremy Vine show, hosted by Vanessa Feltz.
Ms Feltz asked listeners for their thoughts, and was joined by Mr Wallop, who said it was "absolutely outrageous, madness," and he was "spitting feathers" over it.
His reason? That they are already charging £21.50 for a burger, so "one would hope they had fairly competent people in the kitchen capable of removing items from the burger."
A customer on TripAdvisor had five days ago given a negative review about the George Burger due to the "removal" price.
David B wrote: "Back to the prices - very expensive, e.g £21 for a burger, when asking for the burger without the bun ( saves wasting a good bun) we were told it would then be £23 - yes, £2 more, for us to not have the bun.... Amazing, so we had the bun and gave it to the seagulls."
What did The George say about the burger price?
The hotel said the whole thing had been a mix up and the price addition should never have appeared on the menu.
It was showing on the George's website on Monday morning, but had been changed by Monday afternoon.
A hotel spokersperson said: "This was an unfortunate instance of an employee misinterpreting a discussion regarding extra toppings for the burger and they took it upon themselves to add a sentence to the menu which made no sense at all.
"As soon as the mistake was spotted, the menus were all reprinted and the employee will not ‘fiddle’ with the menu going forward.
"The George is a high end beach club restaurant in a smart hotel with a private beach.
"They use locally sourced high-quality ingredients and employ skilled, well-paid staff.
"The cost of £21.50 for a burger is what we need to charge. It is absolutely delicious!"
The George is owned by Prince Harry's friend Howard Spooner and is situated on a private beach in Yarmouth.
