Newport High Street has been suffering from the economic downturn over the last few years.
The Covid-19 pandemic and the move to online shopping have been factors in the decline of the county town's main shopping street.
Today (Friday) County Press work experience student Ethan Wenham undertook a survey of the High Street from Coppins Bridge up to Drill Hall Road junction.
He listed the total number of shops and those unoccupied.
Ethan found there were a total of 108 shops, cafes, restaurants and other businesses along the road.

Of these 26 were unoccupied, with 82 functioning as active businesses.
This week the Isle of Wight Council cabinet agreed to partially pedestrianise part of the High Street between St James's Street and Holyrood Street, with the removal of parking spaces and widened pavements.
Three parking spaces for the disabled will remain.
The aim of the changes is to revitalise the town's economy.
