AN APPLICATION to dismiss a charge levelled against a man accused of dangerous driving, leading to the Hale Common death of Michaela Logan in 2020, is being considered.
Mackensie Hallett, 19, of Arundel Road, Ryde, was not required to appear at the Isle of Wight Crown Court today (Monday), for a preliminary hearing.
Appearing by video link, Daniel Sawyer, defending, told the court CCTV evidence needed to be viewed carefully, before a decision could be made on whether or not to apply to dismiss the charge against his client.
Mr Hallett is currently due to stand trial in September, on a charge of causing death by dangerous driving.
Michaela Logan, of Carisbrooke Road, Newport, was 19 years old when she died in a crash on the A3056, near Arreton, on January 10, 2020.
She had been driving a Ford Fiesta, while Mr Hallett was in a Ford Focus.
The judge, Recorder Malcolm Gibney, said the application to dismiss will, if appropriate, be made to the court on July 25.
Recorder Gibney also confirmed the jury trial, due to commence at the same venue in September, is scheduled to last five days.
