The blitz spirit came out in Vicky Taziker when she saw that the members of Shanklin Royal British Legion Club weren't getting their rations.
Covid 19 had seen the popular club being forced to close its kitchen in 2019 but by the end of 2021 members wanted it to reopen.
Early in 2022, with additional help from other committee and club members, Vicky renovated and rejuvenated the kitchen.
The first event took place in January.
Vicky said: "It was after a couple of events that I got the bug and wanted to take over the kitchen myself.
"As a member of the club, I wasn’t able to be an employee of the club and remain on the committee, so the only option was to take it on as a franchise opportunity and pay the club rent.
"I gave up my day job as a self-employed community personal assistant in adult social care and took over the kitchen.
"It already had the NAAFI sign on the door. I added my name to the sign and VICKY’S NAAFI was born."
From Sunday roasts to breakfasts and burgers, Vicky is now serving up lots of home cooked delights and members are loving it.
She said: "When I gained my five-star food hygiene rating, I was so pleased and relieved!
"All our hard work in preparing the kitchen hadn't gone to waste.
"I have had previous food retail experience with KFC and I am also an internal OEC (Operations Evaluations Coach) for the Domino’s Pizza franchise on the Island, where I visit each of the stores randomly to evaluate their food safety."
"It is still early days with the menus.
"Although, everything that I provide, from breakfasts, Sunday roasts and my standard bar menu seems to go down really well.
"The cheese burgers and chicken burgers seem to be a favourite within the club.
"I am in the process of adding new items, such as doner meat and chicken wraps, cookies and muffins to the menu.
"I sample them with the bar staff first and then the customers can’t wait for theirs.
"I try, where I can, to keep the prices reasonable."
Vicky works with the club on events such as table-top sales and bingo events and these are available to non members as well.
The next table-top sale is on May 3 from 2pm.
Vick has a Facebook page Vicky’s NAAFI.
