Isle of Wight MP Bob Seely has been in Ukraine's Odesa region this week, according to The Times newspaper.
He is quoted as saying he saw images confirming a successful strike by Ukraine, on the Russian warship Moskva, which later sank.
The Isle of Wight County Press has asked Mr Seely's office for a comment.
Mr Seely used to live in the region and is well-versed in its history and politics.

In his most recent tweet on the war, which started when Russia invaded Ukraine in February, Mr Seely hightlighted an offer by the UK to repair damaged Ukrainian military equipment, as Ukraine’s own repair facilities have been destroyed.
Meanwhile, the Isle of Wight aid effort continues to help refugees - mainly women and children - who has poured out of Ukraine.
On the Island, it is being led by MAD-Aid, which is based in East Cowes and runs the Phoenix Centre in Riscani, Moldova, currently housing people fleeing the war.
