A RYDE bar will hold a 'Ukraine Support Day' to support the work of an inspirational young man who helps the elderly and fights to defend his native Ukraine.
Bar 74, on Union Street, is raising funds for Senya, who, with his friends distributes free meals to the elderly whose neighbourhoods have been devastated by war in and around Kyiv.
Senya has been through missile strikes; he serves in the territorial defence force, and his friend was killed in the battle of Hostomel.
Although he is only 19 years old, he has been buying food, coordinating the preparation of and delivering thousands of free meals since the war started.
Bar 74 is also making donations to Lifeline Ukraine, a ‘Samaritans’ type helpline that supports anyone affected by the conflict.
A spokesperson said: “If we raise enough funds, we would also like to make a contribution towards buying an ambulance.
“Please come and support our event, relax, enjoy the music and poetry, buy a piece of art or some raffle tickets and help us continue to support Senya and other causes.”
The Ukraine Support Day will include music, poetry, a dance display, a Tai Chi demonstration, an art sale, a raffle and buskers from the town.
The event starts at 4pm on Friday, April 22.
