They may be crazy, kooky and ooky, but they are also a very entertaining watch!

TheatreTrain Isle of Wight and TED Theatre Educational are staging The Addams Family musical at Medina Theatre, tonight (Wednesday) and tomorrow and it proves to be a spooky Easter treat for all the family.

The laughs keep coming, thanks to a stand-out performance from Olly Fry, as Latin lover and hassled dad, Gomez Addams.

Bedecked in trademark pinstripes, the Isle of Wight singer and musician brings a genuine warmth to the role, whilst performing a tango, sword fighting, and negotiating his way around family disagreements.

His no-nonsense wife, played by the brilliant Natalie De Gruchy, is everything you could want.

Morticia Addams is cool, calm and withering, with a toss of hair that speaks volumes, crossed arms and an imperceptible sashay, stage left, but she's also a woman who loves her husband and kids.

One of the biggest cheers of the night went to bald and eccentric Uncle Fester.

Callum Davies brings top dance skills and emotion to the role, including delivering a moving ballad about love, while dressed in an Edwardian-style swimming costume, backed by some inventive staging involving umbrellas.

The story centres on every father’s nightmare: Wednesday Addams (Ava Cowan), the ultimate princess of darkness, is in love with sweet, smart, Lucas (Fred Valvona).

Wednesday's brother Pugsley (Alfie Luke) is feeling left out...and secrets abound.

Joining them, front of stage, are Meg Cooper and Mark Simmons (as Lucas's parents) and the rest of the somewhat confronting Addams Family; Lurch (Corey Gibbs) and Grandma (Mel Smith).

There are creditable American accents and chaos a-plenty, along with a big helping of family bonding, backed by the ghostly TheatreTrain chorus.

We must also dedicate a word or two to the show's brilliant set, complete with chains, gothic wallpaper and lashings of dry ice.

The Addams Family plays tonight (Wednesday April 13) and tomorrow at Medina Theatre, Newport, at 7pm.

Get your clicking fingers ready and don't be afraid to use them. Altogether now, "They really are a scream, The Addams Family."
