A NEW defibrillator has been installed in Shanklin — at the Royal British Legion club off Collingwood Road.
Member, Chrissy Brodie, made the suggestion, and within ten days of starting the fundraising campaign, the full £1,750 target was reached.
Shanklin Town Council and Shanklin Rotary Club contributed £1000 and £250 respectively, and Dominoes Pizza donated £250.
Club member, Sean Rogers, also completed a 32-mile sponsored walk, raising a further £935.
Campaign manager, Mark Watson, said: “The pandemic delayed the project by two years, but as soon as it started the response was amazing.
"The donations came in quickly and we were able to place the order with the Isle of Wight Ambulance.
"The defibrillator is part of the national defibrillator network — The Circuit — meaning the cabinet door lock code can be obtained by calling 999.
"This life-saving piece of equipment is available 24/7 for all the people of Shanklin.
"Surplus monies raised will be donated to the Poppy Appeal, and I would like to thank everyone who helped to get this fantastic project to where it is now."
