SHALFLEET’S The New Inn will reopen tomorrow (Monday), after new management was found to run the popular pub – albeit temporarily.
The pub will reopen at 11am under the new non-permanent management of Simon Cant and his business partner Liam White.
Simon and Liam are familiar pub owners on the Island, already managing The Castle Inn on Newport High Street and The Vine Inn on Upper Green Road in St Helens.
The duo has experience at both the back and front of house over a career spanning nearly 15 years.
At first, the pub will only offer drinks, while the new team recruit kitchen staff and get the food rolling.
Simon said: “This is only a temporary hold of The New Inn, but it is a very beautiful pub.
“My goal is to save as many proper traditional British pubs from being closed as possible, so we are holding it to get it back and running for the heart and community of Shalfleet and Newtown.
“We hope to see a few new faces and old.”
According to WhatPub, The New Inn has stood on the corner of Mill Road since 1744, built when the church hall burned down.
At its best, the pub was a very popular choice for food, winning awards for its traditional, quality pub grub.
In September 2021, under the previous ownership, The New Inn suffered a break-in, and a safe was stolen.
