A MOTORCYCLIST has suffered serious injuries in a collision with a car in Shanklin.
The male casualty has been flown by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance to Southampton General for treatment.
He was airlifted from Atherley Road car park in Shanklin, which is near to the collision site on the junction of Arthur's Hill, Atherley Road and Hope Hill.
The motorcycle and a black Volkwagen Golf had collided.
A Hampshire Constabulary spokesperson said: "Police were called at 1.05pm on Sunday, 27 March, to reports of a two vehicle collision on Atherley Road, Shanklin.
"The collision involved a car and a motorcycle. The motorcyclist has suffered serious injuries and has been taken to hospital."
There is currently no access down to Shanklin seafront by car as the junction has been closed off in that direction. Cars leaving Hope Hill are being permitted out, however.
Police are expecting to open the roads again soon.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible.
