Who doesn’t enjoy a treat?

Whoever we are, wherever we live, most people love to spot a bargain to purchase.

A group of friends in East Cowes feel the letter “Better Attitudes to Waste Needed” is worthy of some elucidation.

That letter inspired an East Cowes resident to telephone Co-op head office and speak in support of the branch manager at Co-op, East Cowes, who is actively and physically involved in supporting the East Cowes community, and beyond.

Produce, on reaching its shelf life and after being offered to the public as reduced items, is dealt with in the following ways, and is dependant on quantities available.

Twice a week the Community Spirited Cafe, Vectis Road, receive produce for their three weekly groups, Knit and Natter; Older Persons Youth Group; and Mental Wellness Group.

Any overstocks from these donations are left outside the premises for the public to help themselves.

Another organisation to have benefitted is the local Sea Scouts group. Every day of the week, available stock is sent to the Congregational Church in Newport — for visitors to help themselves .

Incidentally, Community Spirited have recently received a £10K grant to assist people/families who may be struggling to buy food, or to pay utility bills.

Any such persons are asked to contact Jane at Community Spirited, who will see if they can be helped.

In addition to donating food, the branch manager has initiated and set up a food bank and, also, a recycling of soft plastics bin within the store.

Into the plastics recycling bin, clean pet food pouches can be deposited, which really does help to reduce the problem of waste plastic, ultimately helping to benefit climate change.

The branch manager has, on occasion, given gifts to local people who have shown a ‘genuine act of kindness’ within the community.

Returning to the issue of waste produce: any food that is beyond use is collected by a Green Waste Company, and processed into green energy, in the effort to combat climate change.
