DUMPED at the roadside and a danger to passing cars — this is the Isle of Wight's latest bout of flytipping.
The discarded rubbish was left along Coleman’s Lane in Porchfield yesterday morning (Monday).
Terry Barnes was driving past at 6am and spotted it.
He said: "I must have been the first person to come across it, thank goodness.
"There were metal gas bottles in the middle of the road and lots of glass.
"There could have been a nasty accident as it was on a corner."
Terry reported the waste and it got removed. He believes there were some identifying features among it, which could lead to the culprits being found.
Figures from Defra show that on the Isle of Wight, flytipping has worsened.
There were 749 incidents recorded across 2020/21 — but no fixed penalty notices were issued by the Isle of Wight Council.
Incident were up considerably from 565 the previous year — a 32.5 per cent increase.
However there were some actions taken — 130 actions, including 103 investigation actions, and 28 warning letters sent.
Plans to set up a litter taskforce have stalled, the County Press previously reported.
