An Isle of Wight based charity that sends medical aid to Moldova is now supporting refugees fleeing the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

MAD-Aid is helping those escaping the conflict at its Phoenix Complex, in northern Moldova.

Founder Victoria Dunford said the charity is now supporting 70 mothers and children who have crossed the border.

She said: "We have nurses and counsellors on site, trained at our centre by UK specialists and their contribution will be vital now."

There are long queues at Ukraine's borders as women and children leave the country.

MAD-Aid plans to to set up an aid distribution hub and will support families with education and counselling.

It also aims to further extend its accommodation and to create a volunteer program, enabling refugees to support each other.

How can people on the Isle of Wight help refugees from Ukraine?

Through MAD-Aid, we can donate medical supplies (with six months left on their use-by date), which will be taken from the UK to Ukraine, via Moldova.
