RECORD gusts on the Island during Storm Eunice could be even higher than first announced, according to the Isle of Wight Met Service.

Local forecaster, Jamie Russell, says the figure is in fact 125.4mph ­— a record wind speed for the Isle of Wight, and for England.

The Met Office previously confirmed 122mph gusts at The Needles, which was already a record breaker.

The five strongest wind gusts on the Isle of Wight have since been revealed.

The IW Met Service says The Needles experienced the strongest wind gusts, topping at 125.4mph.

The second strongest gusts hit Ventnor Cascade Gardens, where 97mph winds were recorded.

Shanklin was hit by 91mph gusts, and St Catherine's Point felt gusts of 84mph.

Totland Bay, meanwhile, experienced 80mph winds.
