GUSTS of up to 122mph have been recorded at the Needles, though this is an exposed site, the Met Office said.
It is a record wind speed ever recorded for the Isle of Wight and is hurricane force.
The wind gust at the Needles is provisionally the highest gust ever recorded in England, the Met Office announced.
Several cross-Solent services have now been suspended.
