HURRICANE forcewinds are battering the Isle of Wight this morning.

Island weather forecaster Jamie Russell of IW Met Service was first to call the Red level warning for the Island yesterday and predicted the Force 10-11 winds will be "really nasty".

However, the NCI Needles Coastguard station have upped the ante by reporting Force 12 hurricane strength, 65-knot, winds off the exposed westerly point in the last hour.

Islanders have been warned to stay at home and schools and transport links have been hit.
