IT WAS a right royal occasion at Newchurch Primary School on Friday (February 4), as children celebrated Queen Elizabeth II’s ascension to the throne.
Children were invited to wear a crown to school to celebrate the 70th anniversary.
The children have been made aware of the importance of the Platinum Jubilee during assemblies and have been learning the first verse of the National Anthem as part of their daily sing.
Each year group were challenged to make a crown that symbolised something special.
Themes included all about me, my friendships and my aspirations for the future.
Through a secret democratic vote, each class picked their favourite design, with the winning creations awarded a special prize.
Mrs Louise Parkin, head of school, said: “The Queen’s jubilee celebration actually falls in our half term holiday, and we thought it important to mark the day whilst at school.
“It was lovely to celebrate this occasion with the children, to see their crowning creations and their smiles on their faces.”
