CHILDREN at Wootton Community Primary School enjoyed a week of learning about the Chinese New Year.

Over the week, reception class learnt about the 12 animals and the race across the river to determine which animal would win and have the year named after them.

The children learned which animal year they were born in and that this year was the year of the tiger.

The role play area was turned into a Chinese restaurant, as the class took turns to serve spring rolls, noodles, prawn crackers and rice — using chopsticks.

On Friday, the children came into school dressed in Chinese costumes or red/gold clothes.

In the afternoon, the school welcomed their parents into class for a craft session where they made lanterns, dragons, wrote their names in Chinese writing and made fans, plus many more art activities.

Wootton Community Primary also held a raffle to win a trip to Robin Hill for their Spirit of the Orient event.

Sarah Cowell, class teacher, said: "It was an amazing week which the children thoroughly enjoyed, and they took great joy in sharing their learning with their parents.”
