AN EMPTY shop on Newport High Street is set to be transformed into a nail bar.

You will be able to polish up your nails in the former Wrights Estate Agency office, next to B&M, in the upper High Street, after the Isle of Wight Council approved an application from a Mr Tran.

In planning documents, agents Nova Architectural, say the building is in a poor condition.

They said the plot was being wasted due to its prime position on the High Street, which was an ideal place for a nail bar.

In approving the application, the Isle of Wight Council's planning officers said it would generate jobs and attract customers into the town centre.

Officers went on to say, given the number of retail uses near to the shop, it was considered it would not result in more nail bars coming into the area, harming its retail function, character or viability.
