The road connects many area in the south and east Wight to central Wight.
A MAIN road connecting Newport, Sandown, Shanklin and Ventnor has been closed this evening (Thursday).
Island Roads says Whiteley Bank has been closed for emergency repairs due to a gas escape.
The road is closed from its junction with Canteen Road to its junction with North Road.
The diversion will affect Canteen Road, Newport Road, Sandown Road, Arthurs Hill, North Road, and Victoria Avenue.
