The 9:45am sailing from Yarmouth to Lymington turned back this morning (Monday), when a passenger refused to leave his vehicle.
Shortly after leaving the Isle of Wight, Wight Light turned back.
A passenger refused to head to the ferry's passenger deck, the operator said.
A spokesperson for Wightlink said: "The customer refused to get out of his vehicle, when asked by a member of the crew and became agitated.
"The ship's captain decided to return to Yarmouth, where the customer drove off the ferry.
"Wight Light departed for Lymington at 09:57."
Hampshire Constabulary says its police officers were not called to the West Wight port, as a result of the incident.
Wightlink says customers who need to stay in their cars, for health reasons, must make a request 48 hours before they travel.
Permission is granted at the Master’s discretion, it said.
