A FURTHER 172 cases of Covid have been confirmed on the Isle of Wight today (Wednesday).

These latest cases follow on from a reported 177 cases yesterday.

The government website states that because of a processing issue, positive lateral flow tests followed by a negative PCR test in England were not removed on January 4, 2022.

Today's total figures include removals for two days.

The latest cases bring the Island’s total since the pandemic began to 23,078.

The Island rolling rate stands at 853.2, up from 844.0 yesterday.

At 1,997.8, the Island’s 20 – 24-year-olds remains the age group with the highest Covid rolling rate.

The UK average rolling rate is 1,725.

According to the latest update, on December 28, 2021, 24 patients are in St Marys Hospital with Covid-19, three of which require ventilation beds.

People without coronavirus symptoms who have a positive lateral flow test in England will no longer need a confirmatory PCR test from next week.
