GLAM rock tunes and a dancefloor full of revellers ensured the festive season got off the starting block in retro style, thanks to Jack Up Christmas.

The latest instalment in a series of events by the Jack Up team was held at Lower Hyde in Shanklin on Saturday night.

The DJ sets threw out a good mix of Christmas songs, classic 70s hits such as Dancing Queen and Night Fever, and plenty of disco tunes that haven't been heard in a long time — taking the crowd on a fun trip down memory lane.

The live act was certainly different and one we were all curious to see — the world's only all-female Slade tribute band. They went by the suitably cheesy name of Slady, of course.

As soon as they began their set, the audience knew they were in a for a treat. These were accomplished musicians but also really fun, and the frontwoman strangely made for a very passable Noddy Holder!

Slade fans in the crowd had also dressed as the frontman, and many more wore their Christmas best for the occasion.

Everyone enjoyed the big hits such as Cum On Feel the Noize and Mama Weer All Crazee Now — and of course the song that everyone knows Slade for, Merry Xmas Everybody.

This band knew how to get the Christmas party started.

Future Jack Up Events include soul singer Jaki Graham on Saturday, November 27, and The Bohemians, A Night of a Thousand Freddies, on February 26, both at Shanklin Theatre.

Jack Up The 70s with The Zoots returns to Lower Hyde on February 19, and tickets will be on sale in the coming weeks.
