Restaurants on the Isle of Wight are celebrating after being named in a prestigious restaurant guide.
Now in its 28th edition, AA’s The Restaurant Guide 2022 provides food lovers a reference guide to all the places to dine across the UK – this year, four Isle of Wight establishments have made the grade.
Broken down into regions, the book includes a description of each destination along with information on the type of cuisine, price guide, opening times and the all-important AA Rosette Award rating.
Restaurants can be awarded 1 to 5 Rosettes based on a meal visit or visits by one or more hotel and restaurant inspectors.
AA’s The Restaurant Guide 2022: Isle of Wight entries
Thompsons - Two Rosettes
11 Town Lane, Newport, PO30 1JU
CUISINE: Modern European
WHAT THE GUIDE SAYS: “Robert Thompson has long been an ambassador for the island and his eponymous restaurant has a genuine buzz to it.
“An open-plan kitchen ensures proper engagement with guests in the uncluttered dining room, and shows a serious commitment to island produce.
“Dishes are eloquently executed.”
* Thompson's is currently closed ddue to Covid. It says it will reopen when safe to do so.
Seaview Hotel - Two Rosettes
High Street, PO34 5EX
CUISINE: Modern British
WHAT THE GUIDE SAYS: “In the picturesque fishing village of Seaview, on the Island's north-east coast, this long-established hotel is just 50 metres from the sea that supplies much of the fish on the menu.
“The cooking is refined with classic techniques letting tip-top ingredients speak for themselves.
The Royal Hotel - Two Rosettes
Belgrave Road, Ventnor, PO38 1JJ
CUISINE: Modern British
WHAT THE GUIDE SAYS: “The Royal is a handsome slice of Regency grandeur on the Isle of Wight's south-east coast. Inside, is a classic English tableau fully loaded with crystal chandeliers, parquet floors and decorative ironwork.
“The island's own Gallybagger cheese opens proceedings in a soaring soufflé.”
Smoking Lobster - One Rosette
Esplanade, Ventnor, PO38 1JT
CUISINE: British, Pan-Asian
WHAT THE GUIDE SAYS: “Bleached wooden floorboards, unclothed tables and a minimal white decor jazzed up with monochrome images of fish set a suitably maritime mood in this easygoing eatery.
“As its name suggests, fish and seafood are king, and the pocket-sized galley kitchen sends out a nice line in Asian-accented dishes to go with the glorious sea views.”
