Work to repair Cowes's storm damaged sea wall is due to get underway.

Last week's high winds, torrential rain and strong waves caused part of the wall to collapse.

Yesterday (Monday), it remained cordoned off for safety, after Friday's visit by engineers.

The damaged section lies between Cowes beach and the Royal Yacht Squadron.

Railings were ripped out of the concrete, while debris - including masonry and ironwork - had to be recovered from the beach.

Last week, Councillor Phil Jordan, Isle of Wight Council's cabinet member for highways and infrastructure, said: "We are working quickly to get this section of seawall repaired after sustaining severe damage.

"These are important sea defences and this work must be carried out as quickly as possible to ensure adequate protection along this regularly walked part of the Esplanade as we head into the winter storm season."
