AN ELDERLY man was taken to hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation from cooking fumes, at his home near Newport.
The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service sent two crews from Newport and another from Cowes to a property on Horsebridge Hill, along the main Newport to Cowes road, at 2.39pm today (Saturday).
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service sent two ambulances to the scene.
The fire service received a report of a fire, but on their arrival there was smoke logging at the property caused by a cooking fire and fumes.
Firefighters ventilated the property, while an elderly man who lived there was taken to St Mary's Hospital, Newport, suffering smoke inhalation, although his condition is not considered serious, an ambulance service spokesman said.
