THE SPINNAKER in Bembridge has been taken over by a new team — the people behind the popular Chequers Inn.
Yesterday, Inns of Distinction, which owned the hotel, bar and restaurant, announced that The Spinnaker had passed into the hands of Laura Holmes, Mark Holmes, and Steve Harris, "who are adding this site to their successful portfolio on the Isle of Wight".
Inns of Distinction said: "May we thank all of our loyal customers over the past years and we are sure this is the next step to an exciting future for the site having rescued it from redevelopment in 2014.
"Keep an eye on social media for further announcements regarding the reopening of The Spinnaker."
The Chequers Inn posted on its Facebook page: "Big announcement time! We are excited to finally share that purchase of our new premises! Welcoming The Spinnaker to our family.
"We will be working tirelessly over the next couple of weeks and aim to have our doors open in a fortnight. Keep your eyes peeled for updates along the way."
They said they are considering a name change, including the chance to revert back to former names of the premises - The Windmill or The Birdham.
They have asked people to comment on The Spinnaker's Facebook page.
The Spinnaker's website is now under construction as the premises is under new management and changes are made.
The Chequers Inn is also a place to eat, drink and sleep, and is favoured by locals for its children's play area, food cooked to order and use of local produce in its dishes.
