Heavy rain sees second Isle of Wight flood alert

The Environment Agency says the water level in the Eastern Yar is high and rising.

Overnight, almost 25mm of rain was recorded at Wroxall.

Most of the rain fell in three hours, which is a large amount in a short period of time.

The Environment Agency says from 11am, the water level will become noticeably higher at Alverstone, rising near to the top of the river bank.

A flood alert has also been issued for the Gurnard Luck, with the Environment Agency warning the water level could be high enough to cause garden flooding to properties located immediately next to the river.

"Some field flooding may occur at Langbridge. We do not expect access issues at Horringford," said a spokesperson for the public body.

"Property flooding is not expected.

"Later this evening, at around 9pm, it is possible minor impact flooding will occur at Golf Links Road.

At Alverstone, the river is expected to peak at around 1pm, but not until 11pm at Sandown.
