A flood alert has been issued for the Gurnard Luck.
The Environment Agency says water levels are 'high and rising.'
It follows around 25mm of rain recorded overnight in Cowes, which fell over just three hours.
High tide in the area is at 11am.
From 1pm, the Environment Agency warns the water level could be high enough to cause garden flooding to properties located immediately next to the river, in Marsh Road (Gurnard).
It said: "Until the level falls with the lowering tide, please keep away from the river at Gurnard Road Bridge.
"Water will be deep and fast flowing."
The river will rise until 2pm and will begin to drain with the lowering tide.
No problems are expected after 4pm, say experts, so the flood alert will end at 6pm today (Tuesday).
