Demand for fuel remains high on the Island, but ‘deliveries are still getting through’ said a spokesperson for the Isle of Wight Council.
The demand, although still high, is said to be slightly reduced compared to last week.
Freshwater Garage was forced to close Saturday afternoon, as the delivery of diesel that it had received earlier that morning ran dry.
The petrol station has remained closed, through to today (Monday), awaiting a delivery tomorrow morning before resuming service.
Whitwell Garage, although still operational today, is also waiting to hear about a delivery tomorrow.
A council spokesperson said today: “While the situation had eased dramatically in the North and The Midlands, the South was still experiencing high demand, although slightly reduced on last week.
“Deliveries are still getting through.
“The military has now been deployed and the situation should be resolved.”
It is currently unknown whether military personnel will be deployed on the Island.
