Southern Water is working on a burst water main between Cowes and Newport, which was affecting supplies in homes in Cowes, East Cowes and Gurnard overnight.
It warned that "Due to the complexity of repairs, the burst will take more time to fix than initially anticipated."
Reduced pressure and discoloured water was being reported in the area although Southern Water said the 'normal' and 'temporary' issue usual resolves within a few hours.
People in parts of East Cowes are still reporting brown coloured water this morning and intermittent service.
Engineers were called to the problem at about 5.45pm on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, a main has also burst in the Staplers Road area of Newport, according to a midnight update on the utility firm's website.
It follows torrential rain last night.
