Donna Day has been having treatment at the hospital for nearly nine years and thinks it is much deserved.

She said Islanders should have total confidence in the hospital and its staff, saying all the departments that she has dealt with (from fractures to orthopaedics), are there for their patients.

Geoff Smith is the charge nurse in children’s A and E — officially the paediatric emergency department.

He said there has been a huge amount of team work, which has meant a holistic approach towards improvement.

His own department has expanded, to include specialised rooms, more staff, and a ‘really lovely’ area for kids.

Improvements include TVs and DVD players, to help distract young patients from busy, stressful and noisy surroundings.

Geoff said it means a better experience for everyone and now that everything has been stripped back, services can be expanded further, as the trust strives for excellence.

Karen Robinson, head of infection prevention control, says everyone has worked incredibly hard and she is proud of the team.

She said it is too easy to take the caring aspect of the job for granted.

Karen said care is a ‘golden thread’ linking the experience of both patients and staff at the IW NHS Trust.

Marcia Meaning, head of patient safety and acute dementia lead, said staff are looking forward to a new training programme and even more improvement in future.

“I can’t say how proud I am,” she told the County Press.
