LARGE queues are being reported at many of the Isle of Wight's petrol stations today (Friday) amidst suggestions of a growing fuel crisis.
Lake and Newport Morrisons, Asda, Tesco and Newport Sainsbury's forecourts have all seen an increase in motorists who appear to be panic buying fuel this afternoon.
Nationally, some petrol stations have been forced to close over problems with petrol and diesel supply, due to a lack of HGV drivers.
Transport Secretary, Grant Shapps, has reassured us that petrol will continue to flow, and people should carry on buying petrol as normal.
He said refineries have plenty of petrol, and the government could even bring in the military to drive fuel tankers if it would help.
Motoring association, AA, said most of the UK's forecourts were working as they should, and drivers should not fill up outside their normal routines.
AA president, Edmund King, said: "There is no shortage of fuel and thousands of forecourts are operating normally with just a few suffering temporary supply chain problems.
"Fridays and the weekend always tend to be busier on forecourts, as drivers either combine filling up with shopping runs, prepare for weekend trips or refuel for the start of the new working week."
