A man has been jailed for rape and indecency with a child after being found guilty of historical sex offences in north London.
Graham Harrison, 56, of Newport Street, Ryde, was found guilty of three counts of rape and two counts of indecency with a child following a two-week trial.
The crimes, which happened between 1979 and 1983, began when the victim was seven years old and involved Harrison raping her and making the child touch him when left alone.
Harrison was aged between 14 and 17 when he committed the crimes, Wood Green Crown Court heard.
The victim came forward to police more than 35 years later and an investigation was launched.
After being found guilty by unanimous verdict Harrison was sentenced on Friday, September 17, to six years’ prison.
DC Adam Downs hailed the victim’s “strength and perseverance” and said the sentence is a reminder that it is never too late for historical sex offences to be investigated.
“I would urge anyone who has been a victim to please report it,” he continued.
“We will do all we can to investigate so that perpetrators are brought to justice and victims receive the appropriate support.
“We have specially trained officers who work closely with highly skilled, specialist and emphatic partners to ensure that anyone who has experienced rape or sexual assault can have the access they need.”
