A Shalfleet Primary School chef has been selected by judges to compete in the School Chef of the Year National Final 2021.
Wendy Lohse is one of two wildcard entrants chosen by the competition judges to compete in the national final, accompanying the nine regional champions.
Organised by LACA – The School Food People, and sponsored by Quorn Professionals, the 2021 champion will receive a £1,000 cash prize and the School Chef of the Year trophy.
All 11 participants have a maximum of £1.40 to spend and 90 minutes to prepare, cook and serve a two-course meal suitable for primary and secondary schools.
Wendy will be cooking:
For main, Yakatan Quorn Ponuchos – Shredded Quorn on a filled tortilla topped with onions, served with rice, beans and salsa
For dessert, Aztec Alligator Pear Mousse – Spiced chocolate whipped avocado with coconut cream, fresh fruit and a mango puree
LACA national chair, Stephen Forster, said: “Over the 20 years since this competition began, it has evolved to reflect both school food standards and food trends.
“The National Finalists range of dishes exemplify their creativity, skills and commitment. It’s going to be an exciting National Final. Good luck to all competitors”.
The winner of this year’s competition will also scoop a work experience trip and an invitation to high-profile catering industry engagements.
The second and third place winners will receive cash prizes of £500 and £300, respectively.
Phil Thornborrow, foodservice director at Quorn Professionals, said: “We have been thrilled to see the amazing creativity of school chefs using Quorn throughout this year’s competition and offer all the 2021 national finalists our best wishes for an exciting finale”.
The final will take place at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole on October 12 and 13.
